Sending money abroad for education: a step-by-step guide

Paying tuition, deposits and living costs abroad — documents, TCS, bank charges and how to make sure the full fee arrives.

  1. Get the payment details in writing from the university's official invoice or portal — beneficiary name, account or IBAN, SWIFT code and the reference to quote.
  2. Choose who pays — the student, or a parent or other close relative from their own account.
  3. Choose "I pay all charges" (OUR) for fees, so intermediary banks do not deduct anything and the full amount arrives.
  4. Check TCS — nil from an eligible education loan; from own funds, 2% above ₹10 lakh of LRS in the year.
  5. Submit the request on GoRemit with the documents. We check them and book your visit with the bank, which sends the money and shares the SWIFT copy.

Use our SWIFT and IBAN checker before you start — a typo is the most common reason a transfer is delayed or returned.
