Send money to Canada
Transfers in Canadian dollars for students funding a GIC and paying college fees, parents supporting children in Canada, and gifts to relatives — through our authorised partner bank, with the live rate and every charge shown before you pay.
What the receiver in Canada must give you
- Receiver's full name and address
- Account number
- Transit number (5 digits) and institution number (3 digits)
- Bank name and SWIFT code
Check the details with our SWIFT, IBAN and bank-code checker before you book — a wrong digit is the usual reason a transfer is delayed or returned.
Purposes and documents
| Purpose | Key documents |
|---|---|
| University fees | Fee invoice or admission letter, student passport, PAN |
| Student living costs | Admission letter, student passport and visa, PAN |
| Supporting a close relative | Proof of relationship, PAN, address proof |
| Gift to a close relative | Proof of relationship, PAN, address proof |
| Medical treatment | Hospital estimate or invitation, patient's passport |
The sender and the receiver can never be the same person for a family or gift transfer. The partner bank has the final say on documents.
Studying in Canada
Students need a GIC or other proof of funds for the study permit — currently CAD 23,448 for living costs (from 1 September 2026), plus the first year's tuition. See GIC account and send money to a GIC.
Good to know
- Canadian banks need the transit and institution numbers as well as the account number — ask the receiver for a void cheque or the bank's direct-deposit form, which shows all three.
- Parents on a PG-1 super visa travelling for the first time get a one-time forex card load; see our forex card page.
