Blocked account for studying in Germany
A blocked account (Sperrkonto) proves to the German embassy that you can support yourself. You open it online with an approved provider; we send the money from India.
How much
The usual requirement is €11,904 a year — €992 a month for 12 months (as of October 2026). The embassy can ask for a different amount for some visa types or scholarships, so check your visa checklist.
Opening the account
- Choose a provider accepted by the German missions — for example Expatrio, Fintiba or Coracle.
- Apply online with your passport. The provider gives you an IBAN and a payment reference.
- Send the money from India (below). The provider issues the blocking confirmation for your visa appointment.
GoRemit does not open the blocked account; the provider does. We arrange the transfer and the paperwork in India.
After you arrive
Once you register your address in Germany, the provider releases €992 a month to your current account for living costs.
Common questions
Can parents fund the blocked account?
Yes — a parent or close relative can pay from their own account in India.
Can I add more than the minimum?
Yes, but only the monthly limit is released each month; ask the provider how it treats the extra amount.
