Send money to the USA
Transfers in US dollars for students paying tuition and living costs, parents supporting children who work or study in the USA, and families sending gifts — through our authorised partner bank, with the live rate and every charge shown before you pay.
What the receiver in USA must give you
- Receiver's full name and address, exactly as the bank holds them
- Account number
- ABA routing number (9 digits) — for wires, the bank's wire routing number
- Bank name, address and SWIFT code
Check the details with our SWIFT, IBAN and bank-code checker before you book — a wrong digit is the usual reason a transfer is delayed or returned.
Purposes and documents
| Purpose | Key documents |
|---|---|
| University fees | Fee invoice or admission letter, student passport, PAN |
| Student living costs | Admission letter, student passport and visa, PAN |
| Supporting a close relative | Proof of relationship, PAN, address proof |
| Gift to a close relative | Proof of relationship, PAN, address proof |
| Medical treatment | Hospital estimate or invitation, patient's passport |
The sender and the receiver can never be the same person for a family or gift transfer. The partner bank has the final say on documents.
Studying in USA
Most US universities show the fee on the I-20 and take international payments through their bank or a payment platform named on the fee invoice. Use exactly the reference the university asks for, usually the student ID.
Good to know
- US banks often route payments through an intermediary bank that takes a fee. For tuition, choose "all charges paid by sender" (OUR) so the full amount arrives.
- A US resident who receives gifts of more than USD 100,000 in a year from a person outside the USA has to report them to the IRS (Form 3520). The gift itself is not taxed in their hands — but they should know.
